Project Summary: Grad Lounge Clean Up

We cleaned up the Grad Lounge today! It's looking pretty swank, if I do say so myself, but there's still lots to do. Here's a summary of what's been done and what's left; key points are bolded to facilitate skimming.

You asked for it:

  • There's a supply of paper towel under the sink!

  • There are cleaning wipes next to the microwave to help with quick clean up. We have the Green Works ones for now as they are compostable and have less scent to them, but if anyone thinks another brand would work better, let us know.

Done so far:

  • Arranged all the awesome reading material into an accessible display by the printer.

  • Changed up the signs so they don't seem so mean.

  • Cleaned, like, everything.

  • Cleaned out the fridge, freezer, and cupboards of any gross/expired goods.

  • Labeled the cupboards to keep things organized and accessible.

  • Moved the student group supplies out of the way (mostly tucked under the mailboxes; LWB is tucked out of the way beside the fridge.

  • Rearranged the furniture to make five sitting areas. This is intended to facilitate group work and conversation, but feel free to move things around -- the space is meant to be customizable and user friendly!

  • Threw out broken or unusable items.

Still to do:

  • Figure out how to fund maintaining supplies. It seems it's mostly MLIS students who use the space, so we may run specific fundraisers and/or work with other MLIS student groups on this.

  • Figure out if that printer actually works. Spoke to Matt about it; he's on the job.

  • Find volunteers to test out the space. Specifically, anyone short or with mobility issues, please let us know if you can't reach anything!

  • Health and safety: It seems we need a stepping stool and, considering the likelihood of spills, one of those "Warning: Wet Floor" signs.

  • Mount the shelves in the cupboards. We have the shelves, just no gear to mount them.

  • Set up a consistent volunteer system for weekly and monthly maintenance.

  • Stock up on supplies! We mostly need coffee and milks/creamers; this'll be sorted in January.

Many thanks to anyone who has expressed interest in helping out, and a particularly enthusiastic shoutout to Michael Gunn as the only volunteer whose health and schedule allowed them to show up today to help out.

As always, if you have any further concerns, questions, or recommendations, contact us at mlissc.uwo@gmail.com.
